Dear Nokesville church family and friends,

“So the last will be first, and the first will be last” (Matthew 20:16, NRSV).

Yesterday, my wife and I had a joyous opportunity to visit the Oakton Baptist Church in Chantilly, where Bill and Ronda Davis serve. They were having Lunch with the Pastor, and Ronda cooked and provided plenty of food that could feed a troop. We met some of their church members who warmly welcomed us and spoke highly of Pastor Bill and Ronda. We were physically fed through delicious meals and spiritually nourished through Methodist-Baptist fellowship.

Bill showed us around the church, and I noticed the sanctuary and the fellowship hall were well maintained and orderly, which showed that their faithful members eagerly cared for the house of the Lord. As I was about to leave, Bill handed me their last Sunday bulletin, pointing to a statement on the bulletin that read “a family of believers serving Christ passionately by serving others compassionately.” I pray for God’s blessings upon our Baptist brothers and sisters and God’s mighty movement through Bill and Ronda’s passionate ministry in the name of Jesus Christ. I wondered how joyfully it would be for two congregations to get together to worship and fellowship one day.

Re our elevator and building expansion project, we are expected to receive bids from three general contractors this week, and our Building Committee will get together to come up with their recommendations. Then, our Church Council, the leadership body of our congregation, will meet to prayerfully discern and decide our next best move for God’s glory and kingdom. I pray that we will move boldly together as one congregation united under the lordship of Jesus Christ, counting on the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and moves through us. May the Lord guide and direct our steps according to His plan so that we may glorify His name through this special building project.,

What a great time to get together for fellowship. This Saturday, September 19, we will have a Community Fellowship Dinner, 5-7:00pm. Our Dinner crew will provide a yummy meal for us. Come, let’s fellowship!

For your information, we now use our new church email addresses as follows: office@nokesvillemethodist.org (for Zoe), bookkeeper@nokesvillemethodist.org (for Linda), and pastor@nokesvillemethodist.org. If you have not received any email from our church’s new email address, chances are that our church database may not have your email address or may have the wrong one. Please contact Zoe, our Church Admin Coordinator. Beginning next week, I’ll send a pastoral letter from my new church email address. Hopefully, you will stay connected with us.

This fall, we journey into the parables of Jesus. Last Sunday, we approached the story of the prodigal son from different angles. You can watch it at Nokesville Methodist Church - YouTube. This Sunday, September 20, we will explore the kingdom of God through Jesus’ parable (Matthew 20:8-16). This Sunday is National Back to Church Sunday, a nationwide outreach Sunday to reconnect and welcome families and visitors to church. This is a great time to invite our neighbors and friends to our faith community. See you all soon on the Lord’s day.

Your brother in Christ,
Sung Yoo
