Fellowship and Confession
Dear Nokesville church family and friends,
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:23-24, NRSV).
I’ve been busy meeting with our current and prospective leaders, clarifying our church’s mission (i.e., why we exist) and sharing our vision (i.e., what we desire to see happen) as we move forward boldly together in the same direction to maximize the impact of our collective efforts. We are blessed to have a group of mature, dedicated Christians who are willing to participate and support our ministry.
God Almighty has brought us, the spiritual Spartans, to wage holy war “against the cosmic powers of the present darkness” (Ephesians 6:12). As we seek to elevate our current, stable state to a new level of spiritual boldness to advance the kingdom of God, we will be identified as a threat to the spiritual forces of evil, and there will be spiritual and physical attacks. Brace for impact. Now is the time to sustain and surround each other with praying hands in Jesus’ name, “the name that is above every name” (Philippians 2:9). Do not journey alone. You are meant for the community of believers who encourage you, keep you accountable, give you the benefit of the doubt, bring about the best in you, and pray for you.
Someone said that a small group in the church is like a lifeboat. If we ever desire to experience a genuine heart-to-heart fellowship (koinonia) as God intends for us, we need more than simply attending Sunday morning services. To this end, we’ve been seeking to launch small groups. Thankfully, we now have three Mission Outpost (MO) families: the Warrenton-Haymarket MO family (led by Sandy and Tim), the Gainesville MO family (led by Natalie and Curt), and the Bristow-Nokesville MO family (led by Tom and Chris, Craig and Cindy). I want to encourage you to come, check us out, and be part of our movement so that you may connect and grow with us. Together we are strong. Ecclesiastes 4:12 reminds, “And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

This summer, we’ve been exploring the spiritual disciplines as we desire to go deep in our spiritual walk. Last Sunday, we explored the practical benefits of confession. You can watch it at Sermons | Nokesville Methodist Church – Bible Teaching in Nokesville VA. This Sunday, August 23, as we conclude the current sermon series, we will explore what kind of worshippers God is seeking (John 4:23-24, Acts 4:31).
